About the Buried Treasure Finder

Every buried treasure chest holds a heart of the sea, the item a conduit is built around. Instead of following a map from a shipwreck, enter your seed and version here: the chests near spawn are marked on the map and listed below by distance. Go to the position, dig a few blocks into the beach, and the chest is there.

Java: a 1% roll in each beach chunk

Java rolls once per chunk with a 1% chance and then requires that chunk to be beach or snowy beach. When both succeed, the chest goes at block 9, 9 inside the chunk, so on Java the X and Z in this list are the chest's own column: in the chunk starting at X 144, the chest is at X 153. Long coastlines can hold quite a few chests, and they never appear inland. Sandy beaches are the place to look: in Java, stony shores never get one.

Bedrock: a 4×4-chunk grid

Bedrock uses a grid instead, one candidate per 4×4 chunks (64×64 blocks), kept only where the spot is beach, snowy beach or stony shore. That makes treasure much denser along Bedrock coastlines than in Java. For Bedrock the list gives the center of the chunk, so dig around that point.

What you dig up

The chest sits in the sand a few blocks down, sometimes under water at the shoreline. Besides the heart of the sea, expect iron and gold ingots, emeralds, TNT, prismarine crystals, cooked fish and, with luck, diamonds or a potion of water breathing. Treasure maps come from shipwreck map chests and ocean ruin chests if you prefer the in-game route.

Turning the heart into a conduit

A conduit is crafted from the heart of the sea and eight nautilus shells, which come from fishing, wandering traders and drowned. Placed under water inside a frame of at least 16 prismarine blocks, it gives Conduit Power: breathing, night vision and faster mining under water, handy for draining a monument or building on the sea floor.

Frequently asked questions

Does buried treasure always contain a heart of the sea?

Yes, every chest has one. Combine it with eight nautilus shells to craft a conduit.

Why is the Bedrock chest not exactly at the listed coordinates?

On Bedrock the list gives the center of the chunk the treasure belongs to rather than the chest block itself. Dig around that point, or open a treasure map for the precise spot.
