About the End City Finder

End cities stand on the outer End islands, far from the dragon's island, and some have an end ship with an elytra moored alongside. This page opens the map in the End: enter a Java seed and version, and the cities appear with their coordinates listed underneath. Click one to center it and see which island it stands on.

Where a city can stand

End cities roll once per 20×20-chunk region (320 blocks), with the position averaged from two rolls per axis like monuments. Three tests follow. The spot must be at least 1,008 blocks from 0, 0, so nothing generates near the main island. The biome must be End midlands or End highlands rather than the small-island or barrens edges. And the ground under the city's corners must reach at least Y 60, which keeps cities off thin island slivers.

Ships, shulkers and loot

Only some cities have an end ship. It holds the elytra in an item frame, a dragon head on the bow and two chests. Chests in the towers carry enchanted diamond and iron gear, gold, emeralds and the Spire armor trim. Shulkers guard the towers and drop shulker shells; two shells and a chest make a shulker box.

Their bullets cause levitation, so carry a water bucket or slow falling potions for when it wears off high above the void. An elytra loses durability as you fly; repair it with phantom membranes at an anvil or put Mending on it.

Getting out to the cities

When the dragon dies, an End gateway appears near the main island. Throw an ender pearl into it and you are sent to the outer islands, roughly a thousand blocks out. Each later dragon fight adds another gateway, up to twenty, each at a different angle, so choose a city close to where one of them drops you or bridge across from your landing spot.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the End city finder offer Java versions only?

This finder plots End cities for Java worlds. Bedrock generates them with its own random numbers, which this page does not cover.

Why is the closest city always so far from 0, 0?

No End city can generate within 1,008 blocks of the origin, so the nearest one is always beyond that ring around the main island.

Which /locate ID is an End city?

minecraft:end_city. Run /locate structure minecraft:end_city in the End with cheats on.
