Nether Fortress Finder

This page opens the map in the Nether, so every coordinate on it is a Nether coordinate. Enter your seed and version to see the fortresses nearby, with their positions listed underneath. Pick one, scale its X and Z up eightfold for the Overworld position, and build your portal there so you step out close to the fortress.

Sharing the Nether with bastions

Since 1.18, fortresses and bastion remnants share a single Java grid: one structure per 27×27-chunk region (432 blocks), placed in the first 23 chunks of each axis. Each spot rolls between the two, weighted two to three in favor of bastions. Bastions refuse basalt deltas, so when a bastion roll lands there the spot goes to a fortress instead; every Nether biome can hold a fortress.

Bedrock uses a wider 30-chunk (480-block) grid for its Nether structures, with its own random numbers.

What you came for

Fortresses are the only place blazes spawn naturally, from spawners on the open platforms and around the halls; blaze rods become blaze powder for brewing and for eyes of ender. Wither skeletons spawn throughout the fortress, and three of their skulls summon the wither. Nether wart grows on soul sand by the stairwells, and chests can hold diamonds, gold, iron, saddles, horse armor and the Rib armor trim.

Linking a portal to a fortress

One Nether block covers eight Overworld blocks horizontally. Multiply the fortress X and Z from the list by 8, build a portal in the Overworld near that point, and when you go through, the game finds or creates a Nether portal close to the fortress. Already standing in the Nether? Walk instead; 400 Nether blocks take under two minutes at a sprint.

Fortress bridges and corridors run straight along the X and Z axes, so once you reach one wall, follow it. Fire resistance potions take most of the danger out of blazes, and a looting sword raises the odds on wither skeleton skulls.

Frequently asked questions

Why are these coordinates so small compared with my Overworld base?

They are Nether coordinates, on one eighth of the Overworld scale. Divide your base's X and Z by 8 to compare them, or multiply a fortress's by 8 for the Overworld point above it.

Can a fortress and a bastion share a region?

No. They come from the same grid, so each region holds one or the other. This page marks only the fortresses.

Which /locate ID is a fortress?

minecraft:fortress. In Java, run /locate structure minecraft:fortress while you are in the Nether.
