About the Village Finder

Type your world seed and set the version, and every village the generator places around spawn appears on the map. Under the map, up to twelve are ranked by straight-line distance, each with its X and Z. Click one and the map jumps there, so you can see the surrounding biome and whatever else sits nearby before you set off.

One attempt per 544-block region

Java divides the world into regions of 34×34 chunks (544×544 blocks) and makes a single village attempt in each, at a random chunk that is never in the last 8 chunks of the region on either axis. Neighboring villages therefore stay at least 8 chunks apart, though attempts on either side of a region border can still land fairly close.

An attempt only becomes a village in the right biome, and the five village styles follow it: plains (meadows also get the plains style), desert, savanna, taiga and snowy plains. A region whose chosen spot lands in forest, ocean or mountains has no village at all, which is why some seeds are crowded with them and others look empty.

Bedrock centers them in their region

Bedrock uses the same 34-chunk spacing but rolls the position twice and takes the average on each axis. Its villages lean toward the middle of their region, while Java's are spread evenly across it. The random numbers differ as well, so one seed gives different villages in each edition; choose the matching edition in the version menu.

Zombie villages and checking in-game

About one village in fifty generates abandoned, populated by zombie villagers instead of traders. Curing them is a classic way to unlock cheap trades. A normal village doubles as an early kit: beds to set your spawn, crops to replant, and house chests, where the weaponsmith's can hold iron, obsidian and the odd diamond. To confirm a location, fly to the coordinates or, with cheats on, run /locate structure #minecraft:village in Java; each style also has its own ID, such as minecraft:village_desert.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there no village near my spawn?

The attempt spot must be plains, meadow, desert, savanna, taiga or snowy plains. If spawn sits among forest, jungle or ocean, the closest village can be far away. This list looks 4,096 blocks out; to start in a world with one right next to spawn, search with the seed finder.

Can a village generate in a meadow?

Yes. Meadows count as plains for villages, so they get plains-style houses on the flower-covered slopes.

Are the coordinates the village center?

They mark the chunk where the village starts, which holds its central meeting point or well. Houses and fields spread outward from there along the paths.
