Pillager Outpost Finder

Pillager outposts are dark oak watchtowers flying the illager banner, with a captain on top and sometimes allays caged alongside. Paste your seed, choose the version, and the outposts around spawn show up on the map, with their positions and distances in a list underneath. Click one to center it before you plan a raid farm or a quick allay rescue.

Java: one roll in five, and never beside a village

Java gives every 32×32-chunk region (512 blocks) an outpost attempt within its first 24 chunks, then throws away four in five of them outright. The survivors are cancelled if any village attempt sits within 10 chunks (160 blocks), even an attempt that failed its own biome check. Finally the biome has to be one of desert, plains, savanna, snowy plains, taiga, meadow, cherry grove, grove, snowy slopes, or the frozen, jagged and stony peaks.

Bedrock: a far wider grid

Bedrock skips the one-in-five roll and spaces outposts on an 80×80-chunk grid (1,280 blocks) instead, with positions pulled toward the middle of each region. The biome list is the same. On Bedrock two outposts are never closer than 24 chunks; on Java the minimum is 8.

What outposts are good for

In 1.21 and later the banner-carrying captain drops an ominous bottle; drinking it gives Bad Omen, which starts a raid once you walk into a village. Pillagers also keep spawning around an outpost, which is why raid and pillager farms are built on them. Allays may wait in cages next to the tower; break one open and hand an allay an item to keep it. The chest at the top holds crossbows, arrows, goat horns and the Sentry armor trim.

The tower is rarely alone. Tents, stacked logs, target dummies and the allay cages are scattered around its base as separate pieces, so walk the whole area before you leave. Clear the pillagers from a distance with a bow, since they fire crossbows from the upper floors.

Frequently asked questions

Can a pillager outpost generate right next to a village?

Not in Java. Any outpost attempt with a village attempt within 10 chunks is discarded, so the ground right around villages is exactly where you will not find one.
